California Tour Day One

California Tour Day One 🇺🇸

Day one of our California tour kicked off in San Diego, where we spent the day meeting with student-athletes and sharing more about what studying and competing overseas can look like after college.

We were joined by graduate school representatives from across the UK and Australia, including Loughborough University, the University of Melbourne (Australia), St Mary’s University, London, the University of Gloucestershire, and Manchester Metropolitan University.

Morning at UC San Diego

We started the day at UC San Diego with a Lunch & Learn session for student-athletes who were curious about graduate study overseas.

Over lunch, athletes connected directly with our university partners and asked practical questions about:

  • Studying overseas after college
  • How university sport works outside the U.S.
  • Whether it’s possible to keep competing while earning a master’s degree

Some athletes came knowing exactly what they wanted to ask. Others came along to listen and learn. The session was relaxed, conversational, and a great way to kick off the tour.

Afternoon at San Diego State University

In the afternoon, we headed over to San Diego State University, where we met with athletes from across sports as well as student-athlete leadership groups.

This session focused more on the bigger picture:

  • Life after eligibility
  • Graduate school as a post-college option
  • How athletes can start thinking about their next step, even if they’re still figuring things out

It was great to see athletes engaging not just for themselves, but also thinking about how this information could be shared with teammates across their programmes.

Connecting Athletes with UK & Australian Universities

Across both stops, athletes had the chance to speak directly with universities from the UK and Australia and learn more about:

  • Overseas master’s programmes
  • What training and competition look like at international universities
  • How other student-athletes have balanced academics and sport overseas

For many athletes, it was the first time these options had been explained clearly and in a way that felt relevant to their own situation.

A Strong Start to the Tour

Day one was full of good questions, open conversations, and genuine interest from athletes across both campuses.

A solid way to start the week, and we’re excited to build on this momentum as the tour continues.
