In January 2027, the University of Melbourne will welcome a select group of leading athletic administrators from across the United States for its inaugural Sports Familiarisation Summit-an exclusive program designed to showcase why Melbourne is becoming a destination of choice for postgraduate student-athletes.
Held from 11–13 January 2027, the Summit reflects the University's growing commitment to creating global pathways for student-athletes seeking to combine academic excellence with elite sporting ambitions. Interest in the inaugural program has been exceptionally strong, with all places now filled well in advance.
Showcasing Australia's leading postgraduate destination
The three-day program will immerse participants in the University of Melbourne's world-class academic environment, introducing the breadth of postgraduate opportunities available across more than 400 graduate programs.
Attendees will gain insight into the University's renowned Elite Athlete Program, explore the support available to high-performing student-athletes, and meet the academic leaders, professional staff and current student-athletes helping shape one of Australia's most dynamic sporting and educational communities.

Known internationally as Australia's sporting capital, Melbourne hosts some of the world's most iconic events, including the Australian Open and the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix. The city will also make history in 2027 by hosting the first-ever regular season NFL game played outside the United States, further cementing its reputation as a truly global sporting destination.
Throughout the Summit, participants will experience Melbourne's celebrated sporting and cultural precincts through curated visits, exclusive experiences and opportunities to connect with leaders across sport and higher education.
Strengthening international partnerships
The Summit will also feature Lucy Pandit, CEO of Athletes Futures Abroad (AFA), the University of Melbourne's founding Australian partner. AFA has played an important role in supporting international study opportunities for student-athletes, helping strengthen connections between US athletic departments and Australian higher education.
